"The Best Way to Find Yourself is to Lose Yourself in the Service of Others"

Besides helping students become the best they can be with their studies, relationship with others, Hidalgo ISD also helps with building and molding students' character.

When the food drive was proposed to Kelly Elementary, the counselor, Janet Goana-Davila saw this as an opportunity for the staff, and most importantly the students to give back. Giving back is what many, here in Hidalgo ISD do best! And what a better way to involve the students. Serving others leads to leadership, an attitude of selflessness, and compassion!

The Lion's Club and Mujeres Unidas, both are nonprofit organizations that capitalize the importance in giving back to the community.

Leading by example is the best way to teach our students; "we normally team up with Peter Piper Pizza every year for our food drive. This year we did things differently due to Covid19. We really wanted to give back to the community and this lead us in partnering with our local nonprofit organizations,” Mrs. Gaona-Davila exclaimed with much hope.

The goal was to collect as many canned food during the month of December. Needless to say, the goal was met! It was grand to see the students, staff, and the community come together for a great cause! JC Kelly Elementary raised a total of 2,276 canned items.

Mrs. Proa was very touched and proud on how much work and effort was put forth by the students; "we are so proud of the students and the individuals they're becoming. They're not only determined to learn, but also driven to make a difference!"
